Manchester Jewish Museum

Bevis Marks Choir performance. To celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Synagogue of the Manchester Congregation of the Spanish and Portuguese Jews, and the 30th anniversary of the Manchester Jewish Museum, which is housed in the former synagogue and which was co-founded by Bill Williams, there will be a performance of the Bevis Marks Choir at 7:30pm on Thu 8 May. Bookings only. This is organised with the assistance of Aron Sterk, and with the generous support of the Sephardi Centre, London, and Artsmethods@manchester, University of Manchester. Public Engagement, Rylands Genizah

Research impact at University of Manchester. Renate Smithius reports how the conservation, digital imaging and cataloguing of 15,000 manuscripts from a synagogue store-room (a Genizah) in Old Cairo, now housed in the John Rylands Library in Manchester, has thrown a flood of light on 1000 years of Jewish history in Muslim lands.
