Renate Smithuis gave a paper entitled 'Fifteen Thousand Fragments at Your Fingertips: The Genizah Collection at the John Rylands Library' as part of the two-day EAJS Summer Laboratory for Young Genizah Researchers at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, 6-7 September 2017. Renaissance Latin Translation project. Renate Smithuis has been awarded a £10,000 British Academy Small Grant for a Renaissance Latin translation project entitled 'Abulafia's Secrets of the Torah in the Kabbalistic Library of Pico della Mirandola (1463-94)'. This is her second British Academy award for this project. Further information.
New Weizmann papers. PhD student Tereza Ward has completed a short listing of papers held by the Sha'are Hayim synagogue, relating to Chaim Weizmann in 1915-17, which includes correspondence with CP Scott, the Editor of the Manchester Guardian.
Weizmann Tour. PhD student Tereza Ward took a group of 30 people from B’nai B’rith UK on a short tour of university locations from Chaim Weizmann’s time at the University of Manchester as a researcher in chemistry, and gave a talk entitled 'Exiled: Weizmann and Manchester'. 5 Sept 2017.
