Artist's Corner: Journal Entry 4 by artist Helena Tomlin

This is the fourth blogpost by artist Helena Tomlin. You can read her previous entries here.

In this entry Helena shares some images depicting details of one of the two objects that we consulted and discussed together. The artefact is an Esther Scroll, Hebrew MS 22, held at the John Rylands University Library, Manchester.

I was at the pop up Manchester Jewish Museum (housed for now in the Central Reference Library) last week and joined the Jewish and Muslim Women's textile group for a great afternoon. We looked at embroideries and chatted while they made a start on a new project.

Many of my previous pieces have been inspired by our beautiful family collection of tablecloths sewn and passed down.

The rolled up Esther scroll had made me think about the little narratives sometimes hidden in cloths. So my studio is at the moment filled with threads while I investigate the Esther Story further.
