Levinas and the Disruption of Knowing. CIDRAL Theory Intensives are seminars for postgraduates and staff dedicated to the work of major figures in the humanities. Holocaust Exhumations. Jean-Marc Dreyfus has been awarded £45,760 for a British Academy 'Thank Offering to Britain' Fellowship 2016-17. The project is entitled 'Disclosing Post-Holocaust and Deportation Exhumations: The Example of the French National Search Mission for Corpses, 1945-1958'. Further information.

Moses Gaster project. Dr Katharina Keim discusses the Samaritan correspondence of Moses Gaster held at the university's John Rylands Library, which is one aspect of the multi-faceted Gaster project(s). See page 3 of the January 2016 edition of ArtsResearch.
Early-modern institutional record books. Dr Michael Miller, head of the Nationalism Studies Program and member of the Jewish Studies faculty at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, has been awarded a JRRI visiting research fellowship at the Rylands Library to work on pinkasim (early-modern institutional records). He will visit in June/July 2016.
Magical incantations. Dr Dan Levene, Reader in Jewish History and Culture at the University of Southampton, has been awarded a JRRI visiting research fellowship at the Rylands Library to work on Ethiopic magic scrolls. He will visit in February 2016.
For UK-based Jewish Studies postgrads. The Centre for Jewish Studies at Manchester University is pleased to announce the first postgraduate research training event of the Northern UK Jewish Studies Partnership. The annual event is open to all UK-based doctoral and post-doctoral researchers in Jewish Studies in the widest sense. It will take place at Manchester University on 30 June and 1 July 2016. Text Encoding Initiative. As part of their development of the Hebrew Collections catalogue project at the Rylands library, Renate Smithuis and Stefania Silvestri organised a two day workshop for Humanities researchers, librarians, curators, and IT specialists, to explore the importance of the use of TEI XML for innovative and interdisciplinary research in the Digital Humanities. The event, co-funded by Digital Humanities Manchester and the John Rylands Research Institute, included speakers from Sheffield, Cambridge, Oxford, Finland, and Ireland: 27-28 Jan 2016. Controversial publication of Mein Kampf. Dr Jean-Marc Dreyfus spoke to the news channel France 24 about Hitler’s Mein Kampf, which re-enters the public domain in Germany from 11 January. Further information.
